Emmanuel Adeyemi still remembers the day he almost dropped out of secondary school. His father had died the previous year, and his mother, a petty trader, could no longer afford school fees for Emmanuel and his three siblings.
"I had accepted that my education was over," Emmanuel recalls. "Then my principal told me about KUTH Foundation's scholarship program. I applied, not really believing anything would come of it."
Emmanuel was awarded a KUTH scholarship in 2018, which covered his school fees through secondary school and his first year of university. His exceptional academic performance earned him additional support for medical school.
Now in his final year at the University of Lagos Medical School, Emmanuel is preparing to fulfill a promise he made to himself: to return to communities like his own as a doctor, providing healthcare to those who cannot afford it.
"KUTH didn't just pay for my education," Emmanuel says. "They showed me that someone believed in me. That belief changed everything."
Emmanuel is one of 250 students currently supported by KUTH's scholarship program. He mentors younger scholars, sharing his experience and encouraging them to dream big despite their circumstances.
After completing his residency, Emmanuel plans to volunteer with KUTH's medical outreach programs, providing free healthcare to underserved communities. "It's my way of paying forward the gift I received," he says.
