The AVAHA (Advocacy Against Violence and Harmful Activities) campaign has achieved a significant milestone, reaching over 10,000 community members across 15 local government areas in Nigeria.
Through community workshops, school visits, and radio programs, the campaign has raised awareness about domestic violence, harmful traditional practices, and the rights of women and children.
"Prevention is as important as intervention," explains Mr. Emmanuel Osei, KUTH's Advocacy Director. "By educating communities, we're creating environments where violence is not tolerated and survivors feel safe to seek help."
Key achievements of the campaign include training 200 community leaders as AVAHA ambassadors, establishing 15 community reporting centers, partnering with local radio stations for weekly awareness programs, and engaging with traditional rulers and religious leaders.
The campaign has also facilitated the rescue and rehabilitation of 45 survivors of domestic violence, providing them with safe shelter, counseling, and legal support through KUTH's integrated services.
Looking ahead, the AVAHA campaign plans to expand to 10 additional local government areas in 2026, with a focus on engaging youth as advocates for change.
