“Enthusiasts, nay aficionados of the now-nationally renowned annual privately-sponsored football tournament in Nigeria's premier elite neighborhood, Festac Town (Lagos), knew it could not be any less of a jamboree if it was KUTH.”

More Than a Tournament

Building on the success of the maiden edition, KUTH Soccer Fiesta Season 2 returned to Festac Town in 2013 with an expanded prize pool and enhanced anti-vice programming. The tournament was paired with intensive anti-vice motivational sessions, where peer educators engaged participating youth on drug abuse prevention, cultism resistance, and academic focus.

KUTH Foundation Football (KUTH-FF) carnival Season II rolled off to grand annals-reckon showpiece end-January 2013 at the Federal Housing Authority playfield in Festac Town. Organizers tagged it FESTAC 2013. That grand event came to a grandiose close on the last Saturday of the month, with FESTICO FC of Festac Town carting home the winner-trophy and the ₦650,000 cash prize attached.

Zero-Tolerance for Social Vices

The week-long carnival had as its theme, the core objective of KUTH Foundation: “Zero-Tolerance for Social Vices among Youths.” Using sports, motivational talks and entertainment in developing the minds and affecting the behavioral patterns of the youths by the Foundation was central to her vision and this was sustained throughout the duration of the program.

It was difficult to say where the revelry was greatest — whether it was in winning the soccer diadem or in the excitement provided by the large array of up-coming and established artistes and sundry entertainers who gave the event the carnival touch.

Novelty Matches

In adding pep to the old saying that, “the teacher was once a student too,” two novelty soccer matches were staged on the opening and closing days, respectively, between Dagogo & Friends FC and Festac XI and the Coaches' Team. Curiously, both encounters ended one goal-apiece on each occasion.
